Infrared Sensor Maintenance Guide

Infrared Sensor Maintenance Guide

Maintaining an infrared sensor is not complicated. Regular simple inspections and cleaning can greatly extend its lifespan and ensure its performance.

一、 Daily cleaning and maintenance

The core of an infrared sensor (whether active or passive/PIR) is its lens window. Dust, dirt, spider webs, etc. can seriously interfere with the reception and emission of infrared radiation, leading to false alarms or malfunction.

Steps:

1. Power off: Before performing any cleaning operation, be sure to cut off the power supply of the equipment to ensure safety.

2. Gently sweep away dust: Use a soft bristled brush to gently sweep away floating dust and spider webs on the surface of the sensor housing and lens. Sweep from top to bottom to avoid dust falling into the gaps.

3. Blowing air: If there is compressed air in a can, you can keep the can upright and spray it briefly to blow away the dust in the gaps and corners.

4. Wipe the lens: Gently wipe the lens window with a dry microfiber cloth. The action should be light to avoid scratching the plastic lens.

5. Dealing with stubborn stains: If there are fingerprints, oil stains, and other difficult to remove dirt on the lens, a small amount of glass cleaner or alcohol (with a concentration of over 70%) can be sprayed onto a microfiber cloth instead of directly spraying onto the sensor, and then gently wipe the lens. Wait for it to completely dry before powering on.

一、 Regular performance checks

After cleaning, it is necessary to check whether the sensor is working properly.

1. Restore power supply: Clean and ensure that the equipment is completely dry before restoring power supply.

2. Trigger test: For human body sensors (PIR, such as automatic lights and security alarms): walk into the sensing area and observe whether the device is triggered as expected. Check the sensing distance and angle; For active sensors such as photoelectric switches and automatic doors: check if the transmitter and receiver are aligned, and if there are any new obstructions on the path.

3. Check the installation structure: Check whether the installation base of the sensor is loose, and whether there is any displacement or shaking caused by wind and sun exposure. Fixed looseness can alter the sensing area, leading to unstable performance.

三、 Important precautions

1. Avoid using corrosive chemicals: It is strictly prohibited to use solvents such as gasoline, benzene, acetone, strong acids and bases to clean the lens or housing, as they will permanently damage the plastic lens and housing.

2. Rough wiping is prohibited: Do not use rough materials such as tissues, hard cloths, towels, etc. to vigorously wipe the lens, as this will cause fine scratches, scatter infrared rays, and affect sensitivity.

3. Waterproof and moisture-proof: Although many outdoor sensors have waterproof designs, it is still necessary to avoid a large amount of liquid flowing into the device during cleaning. Ensure that the sealing ring of the casing is intact and undamaged.

4. Avoid interference sources: Installation position: Ensure that there are no or far from air conditioning vents, heaters, strong light sources, etc. in front of the sensor, as these rapidly changing heat and light sources can cause false alarms in the PIR sensor.

Avoid facing glass: Glass reflects infrared radiation and blocks some wavelengths, which may cause the sensor to malfunction.

5. Environmental factors: Extreme temperature and humidity changes may affect the performance of the sensor. Please ensure that it operates under the environmental conditions specified in the instructions.

6. Reference manual: Different brands and models of sensors may have specific maintenance requirements, and the safest way is to refer to the product's built-in manual.

In summary, the core of maintaining an infrared sensor is to keep its lens clean, ensure stable installation, and stay away from possible sources of interference. Simple cleaning can solve most sensor malfunctions or false alarms.
